Are Sensitive Teeth Holding You Back?
Do you struggle to eat certain foods because you experience discomfort in your teeth? Do you have a hard time eating hot and cold foods at the same time? If so, you may be dealing with tooth sensitivity. Many people experience tooth sensitivity from time to time, especially after receiving certain dental treatments. However, if you notice frequent sensitivity issues, you may have a serious problem with your oral health. Read on to learn more.
What May Be Causing Your Tooth Sensitivity
Many people experience tooth sensitivity at some point. It is especially common if you bite into something extremely cold, such as ice cream. It can also happen temporarily after certain dental treatments, such as a filling or dental crown. We will warn patients that it is common to experience sensitivity after treatment. However, if you have not had a dental treatment recently and are experiencing tooth sensitivity on a regular basis, you may have a problem with your oral health.
Each tooth is composed of various layers. When the outer covering of the tooth, also known as the enamel, becomes damaged and the inside of the tooth is exposed, it can cause sensitivity. You may also notice this problem if you habitually grind your teeth and the enamel is prematurely worn. Patients who suffer from gum disease also experience tooth sensitivity.
How to Help Tooth Sensitivity
Be mindful of how you brush your teeth. If you are using a hard-bristled toothbrush and brushing roughly, you can damage your teeth. Brush using a soft-bristled toothbrush and use gentle, circular motions. You may also want to try a toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth.
