We encourage patients to pay close attention to their oral health between visits to our office. We see you so infrequently during the year that you should be regularly visually inspecting your teeth and gums and feeling around in your mouth for a problem. Many problems with your oral health will be visual. One such issue that you may notice is bleeding gums — possibly an indication of a serious complication with your oral health. Dr. Sorkin recently made a video to explain more about bleeding gums. Click above to watch the short video and learn more.
Are Bleeding Gums a Problem?
Do you notice that your gums are bleeding when you brush your teeth or when you eat certain foods? As Dr. Sorkin explains in the video, bleeding gums is a very common problem that many people experience from time to time; however, it is not normal. When your gums bleed, it is an indication that the gum tissue in that area is inflamed.
Bleeding gums are one of the most common signs of gum disease, which affects more than half of American adults. Patients with bleeding gums or gum disease may require a more extensive cleaning to treat the gums. When we meet with you, we will evaluate your needs and provide a treatment customized for your oral health.
If you are experiencing bleeding gums and it has been some time since your last oral hygiene examination and cleaning, we encourage you to contact our office, which is located in Spotswood, NJ, to schedule an appointment. We want to ensure you are not having issues with your gums and need a more intense treatment. As mentioned earlier, delaying treatment for your gums can lead to more serious complications with your oral health, and we want to help prevent further problems. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
