At Caring Dental of Spotswood, we are passionate about helping our patients achieve excellent oral health. We only get one set of natural teeth, so it’s essential we do everything we can to ensure they last a lifetime. The best way to accomplish this is through preventative dental care. As the name suggests, preventative care aims to stop complications and issues from developing with your teeth, gums, and mouth. Read on to learn more about the importance of preventative dental care and how it impacts your oral health.
What is Preventative Dental Care?
Preventative dental care includes any actions you take to maintain your oral health and prevent the development of issues such as tooth decay and gum disease. One of the most effective ways to do this is by visiting our office for an oral hygiene examination and cleaning every four to six months. During these visits, we thoroughly clean your teeth, remove any plaque, and inspect your mouth for signs of decay, gum disease, and oral cancer. The longer you go between visits, the higher the risk of experiencing oral health complications.
It is equally important to maintain your oral hygiene routine between visits. You should be brushing your teeth a minimum of two minutes, twice a day, using gentle motions and a soft-bristled toothbrush. It is also important that you floss at least once per day. Additionally, you should be regularly inspecting your teeth for any signs of oral health issues. You can use your tongue to feel for anything unusual that might indicate a problem.
We want to help you and your family maintain excellent oral health for many years to come. If you or a loved one needs a routine hygiene examination or any recommended treatment, please contact our office in Spotswood, NJ to schedule an appointment. Just a reminder, we are happy to see pediatric patients starting at age three! We look forward to seeing you soon!
