Candy Alternatives To Use This Halloween
At Caring Dental of Spotswood, we’re committed to helping our patients maintain excellent oral health. With Halloween quickly approaching, many of our patients are enjoying parties and events filled with candy and sweet treats. And, of course, trick-or-treating will be here before you know it! Eating too much candy can lead to serious oral health complications. Over the past few years, many options have become popular for limiting or removing Halloween candy from the home. Here are three ideas you might want to try:
Candy Trade-In
One popular idea is the candy trade-in. This involves having children trade in their candy for something else they want–like a toy or a fun family outing. If you would like to add an element of surprise, look up the “Switch Witch” or “Candy Fairy” for more creative ideas. Pinterest is also full of fun and imaginative ideas for candy trade-ins.
Candy Bank
Another fun option to encourage moderation is the candy bank. This idea involves storing all the Halloween candy in one place, and children can “withdraw” small amounts over time. You have the flexibility to make this work for your family–some parents require chores or activities to be completed before a candy withdrawal is allowed.
Candy Donations
Many organizations look for candy donations once Halloween is over. Some groups collect candy for troops stationed overseas, while others distribute candy to food banks and homeless shelters. You can also donate leftover candy to hospitals, police stations, EMS locations, or firehouses.
We hope you’ll consider trying one of these ideas this Halloween. If you need to schedule an appointment or have questions about your oral health, please contact our office in Spotswood, NJ and we’ll be happy to help! We hope you and your family have a very happy and safe Halloween!
