Sedation Dentistry
If you are a patient who has not visited our office in quite some time due to anxiety, we want to offer a solution to help ease your fears. Sedation dentistry has changed the way some of our nervous and fearful patients feel about visiting our office. This option might be beneficial to you if you have difficulty sitting through long appointments, have a certain aversion to smells, or have a sensitive gag reflex. While a patient is under sedation, Dr. Sorkin can work quickly to complete your dental procedure and get you out of the office in a timely fashion.
Forms of Sedation Dentistry We Offer
We understand that each patient is unique. That being said, we offer two forms of sedation and will work with you to determine which method would be the most beneficial.
- Nitrous Oxide, more commonly known as laughing gas, is a gaseous sedative. Administered by mask during the procedure, this option creates a calming effect to help patients feel at ease and relaxed during dental procedures. It works immediately, and once the gas is stopped, the patient returns to a normal sense of awareness right away.
- Oral sedation creates a sense of calm before the patient even arrives at the office with a pill that is taken approximately one hour before the appointment. This is a great choice for patients with anxiety that is a little more severe or for patients who will be having a longer treatment.
While sedation dentistry might not make a patient jump for joy about coming to the dentist, it can certainly create a sense of calm that would otherwise be lacking. If you are interested in learning more or feel that you would be a candidate for dental sedation, please call our Spotswood, NJ office today to schedule an appointment or consultation.
