Why After-Care Is Just As Important As The Treatment Itself
Do you have an upcoming appointment for a treatment we recommended? Or have you been meaning to call to schedule but you keep forgetting? If you have been postponing treatment, now is the perfect time to schedule your appointment. With spring and summer right around the corner, there is no better time to make sure your oral health is in top shape. For any patient with an upcoming treatment, we want to take a moment to stress the importance of following our post-treatment care instructions. Failure to follow these instructions can lead to serious discomfort, not to mention complications related to treatment. Continue reading to learn more.
Importance of Following Recovery Directions
We treat a number of patients daily, and each person has a different recovery, even when the treatment is the same. We have specific instructions that we provide to each patient after their procedure, and we highly suggest patients follow our instructions, even if the recovery process is relatively simple. Although you may be feeling well, there might be underlying issues that we are trying to avoid. We would hate for patients to experience complications related to recovery and need repairs or a procedure repeated. This can create unnecessary discomfort and added expense.
Do Not Eat and Drink While Numb
One piece of advice that is true for any appointment is to avoid eating and drinking while the mouth is still numb. Not only is it extremely difficult to eat and drink while numb, it can be dangerous to your mouth. It is impossible to chew properly when numb, and it increases the likelihood that there will be accidental damage to your tongue, cheek, or lips.
