Are Mouth Sores And Ulcers A Problem?
If you have ever experienced a mouth sore or ulcer, you know that they are extremely uncomfortable and can make eating and drinking difficult. Many people have never had a mouth sore, some people get them from time to time, and others get mouth sores frequently. Did you know that mouth sores and ulcers can be an indication of a problem with your oral health?
What Are Mouth Sores and Ulcers?
A mouth sore or ulcer develops when the tissue on the inside of the mouth becomes damaged, erodes, or is worn away. In place of the healthy tissue, a sore develops that is usually red around the outside with yellow or white inside. For many people, a mouth sore or ulcer may develop from some form of trauma in the mouth, such as biting the inside of your cheek or lip. It is also common for sores to occur following a dental treatment due to the mouth being continuously rubbed in the same area for an extended period. If you have ever experienced a mouth sore, you know it can be painful, especially when you’re trying to eat or drink. Over-the-counter medications can relieve some of the soreness and make it more tolerable to eat and drink.
