Avoid The Post-Holidays Oral Health Blues This Year
With the arrival of November, we are entering into the holiday season, although certain stores have been decorated for Thanksgiving and the December holidays since August. So it may feel like the holiday season has been here forever. We know that many of our patients have exciting plans over the upcoming holidays, whether they are staying local to celebrate, traveling, or simply taking a much needed vacation. No matter what your plans, we want to encourage you to be mindful of your oral health. Not caring for your teeth properly over the holiday season can leave you with oral health issues in the new year. Read on for some tips on how to care for your teeth and avoid the post-holidays oral health blues.
Maintain Oral Hygiene Routine
It may seem silly that we are reminding you to brush your teeth during the holiday season, but after long and busy days, it can be tempting to cut your oral hygiene routine short or ignore it altogether. Every member of your family needs to continue to brush for two minutes twice daily and use dental floss every day as well. The holiday season is a time that many of us indulge in extra sweets, and we would hate for the lingering sugar to wreak havoc on your teeth and gums.
Enjoy Sugar and Sweets in Moderation
We can’t speak for everyone, but we think some of the best parts of the holiday season are the delectable treats we might not get during other times of the year. Please remember to enjoy sweets in moderation to help keep decay at bay. We also recommend drinking plenty of water when indulging in holiday confections to wash away some of the lingering bacteria.
If you are due for a hygiene examination or have concerns about your oral health, we recommend calling our office located in Spotswood, NJ to schedule your next appointment. We hope you and your family have a happy and healthy holiday season. We look forward to seeing you soon.
