Ways To Keep Your Mouth Healthy
At Caring Dental of Spotswood, we want our patients to have excellent oral health that will last them a lifetime. Our set of teeth is the only one that we will have during our life, and it is important that we take proper care of them. Not only can this be done by maintaining regular appointments in our office, but also at home by making wise choices. We see patients so infrequently during the year that the majority of their oral health is in their hands. Aside from eating healthy foods, there are a few things you can do to ensure you have excellent oral health. They include:
Enjoy Sweets With a Meal
We recommend eating your dessert immediately following your meal. Saliva levels increase in your mouth to help wash away any cavity-producing bacteria. The more times you eat during the day, the more harmful bacteria you are introducing to your mouth.
Brush After Eating
Even if you are enjoying healthy foods, it is important to brush after eating. This is particularly important after enjoying foods and beverages that are sticky or high in sugar. If you are not able to brush, we recommend chewing a piece of sugar-free gum to help remove lingering food and bacteria.
Drink Plenty of Water
Not only is drinking water recommended for your overall health, but it can also help your oral health. Water is an excellent tool to help rinse problematic food and bacteria from your mouth during and after eating. It also helps prevent dry mouth.
The best way to ensure your teeth are healthy is to visit our office every four to six months for a hygiene examination and cleaning. If you are located in Spotswood, NJ or the surrounding area and have any further questions about your oral health or need to schedule an appointment, please call our office. We would love to help you!
