What is National Toothache Day?
February is often thought of as being all about love and caring for others because of Valentine’s Day. We also believe that self-love is important, and that includes caring for your oral health. Aside from Valentine’s Day, there is a lesser-known holiday that occurred on February 9th — National Toothache Day. While this day may seem like a complete contrast to a day focused on love, National Toothache Day is a time to raise awareness about the importance of showing love to your mouth by maintaining proper oral hygiene.
Ways to Prevent a Toothache
A toothache is any form of discomfort in your tooth. The number one goal is to prevent a toothache from occurring. One of the easiest ways to do this is to maintain a proper oral hygiene routine. This includes brushing your teeth for a minimum of two minutes twice a day. In addition to brushing, dental floss should also be used daily to help remove lingering food and bacteria trapped between the teeth.
Ideally, it would be wonderful if everyone could brush their teeth immediately after eating, but we know that isn’t always possible. Be sure to drink plenty of water to help rinse your mouth after eating. Some toothaches can be caused by something as simple as food becoming trapped between your teeth. Many times, brushing thoroughly and using dental floss can remove the problem food, and your mouth will feel better.
The best way to prevent a toothache is to visit our office regularly for a routine oral hygiene examination and cleaning. During these visits, we not only thoroughly clean your teeth and remove plaque, but we also check your teeth for areas that may cause a problem with your oral health in the future. If we recommend treatment, it is important to schedule and receive your treatment in a timely manner. This will help prevent issues such as toothaches.
We want to ensure that you spend your February celebrating love and not dealing with a toothache or other dental trouble. If it has been some time since you last visited the dentist, be sure to contact our office, which is located in Spotswood, NJ, to schedule an appointment. We look forward to seeing you soon!
